Beautification
The BID has worked to create a pleasant streetscape that encourages people to walk our sidewalks, shop in our businesses and dine in our restaurants. We maintain year-round decorations with seasonally colored banners. During the holidays and through February, the nights are lighted with illuminated 6-ft. snowflakes.

Promotion
Our primary tool is the monthly EVENTS Calendar. Eleven thousand printed pieces are distributed by mail and to doorman buildings, local institutions and businesses. It is also available online. The calendar has proven to be a significant community builder by featuring fun events, useful services and resources, and by keeping people aware of a wide range of activities in the neighborhood. As the community experiences changes, the EVENTS Calendar serves as an introduction to the neighborhood for new residents, as well as a constant for those who have been enjoying it for more than seven years.

Promotion/Restaurants and Businesses
Our online and printed Restaurant and Shopping guides have been a big success. We will seek other platforms to expand our reach, from print advertisements to further online linkages

Promotion/Cultural Events
We engage with organizations sponsoring citywide cultural initiatives that will expand our reach and provide us with visitors to our venues and streets. Events include Make Music New York, OpenHouse New York, and Weekend Walks. We will seek to continue our well-attended series of Neighborhood History Walks and Talks.

Security
The BID continues to work with the 24th Police Precinct, Community Board 7, and social service providers to control elements that destabilize and disrupt our community.

Neighborhood Identification: Build on Our Green Initiative
Creating a green community is a long term project. Our area has a chance to draw on resources being made available by DOT and the Upper West Side Streets Renaissance Campaign to initiate programs that will promote the area and make it more livable. Bike lanes, parking changes, narrowed crosswalks, bike racks and plazas with temporary art installations are just some of the tools that may be utilized. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority [NYSERDA] gives hope as a program that can offer assistance to existing smaller buildings. Educating stakeholders (residents for street changes and building owners for energy savings) and then accessing these resources will require more than the BID alone; again we will need to build partnerships.
